Managing Communication I and II

(This section of the site is yet to be developed.)

The content of this section would match the two workshops actually given on managing communication for an online class using Blackboard.

Managing Communication with Students I:

The workshop begins with an overview of Computer-mediated Communication (CMC) and then looks at ways to manage one-to-one interactions with students. Topics include online etiquette and styles of posting online messages, questions of personal expression and anonymity (or identity gaming), and suggestions for use of the "Digital Dropbox" for students to submit projects for an instructor's feedback or other comments.

Managing Communication with Students II:

This session session looks at ways to support online discussions and working collaboratively for instructional purposes. Use of the "Discussion Board", which students and instructors may use to communicate publicly to the entire class, or more selectively to members of one or more working groups include the use of Blackboard's "Select" and "Collect" buttons in the Discussion Board (to group responses chronologically), ways for instructors to model good participation in discussions, and "Hosting" as a means to the development of online learning communities.

Proficiency Level: Intermediate
