Me, A Reporter?
January 7th, 2007 by trottahe
I just sent out my third article to the editors of Slatenight, a virtual magazine. This monthly magazine celebrates the arts, culture, education, lifestyles and entertainment in the world of Second Life. What I find so interesting is this crossover between our virtual life and identity and our real. Here I am, writing (in real life) for a magazine that covers happenings in a virtual life. As a writer and reporter, the actual process of writing the articles (taking notes and photos, meeting deadlines, etc.) is exactly the same as they would be in real life, yet I am covering events that do not actually occur in a physical location unless you count bits and bytes on a server, space. Yet there are “people” there, gathering to form a community.
This month I reported on art show, hosted by Second Life’s leading virtual arms supplier … couldn’t believe it myself. The owner of the space is hoping to broaden his customer base by sponsoring events such as this one. Odd? Definitely … I don’t talk to dates about this type of thing … hard to explain …
Check out my articles. I’m not the best writer … but I keep trying!
